1962-67 Mini Countryman Clipper Blue

The Mini was arguably the most influential British car of the 20th century. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959, the mini was in production for over 40 years. In the wake of the Suez crisis in 1956, the market for German bubble cars increased dramatically but Leonard Lord, the head of the British Motor Corporation, hated them so much he laid down the basic specification for the Mini.  Over the many years that the car was in production, there were many variants, but one of the most popular was the estate or station wagon otherwise known as the Countryman. 

Originally badged as the Austin Seven Countryman, the Seven was dropped in 1962 with the car becoming simply the Austin Mini Countryman. Our illustration shows the model that was sold between 1962 to 1967  and although the badging was changed, the actual changes were few mainly focussing on interior refinements.

Nevertheless, the car has become much loved in classic car circles, and as a result, commands high prices when a nice one becomes available!
