Enzo Ferrari once said that the Jaguar E-type was the most beautiful car in the world and many agree with him. The E-type (known as the XK-E in North America) was based on the company's highly-successful D-type racer and was produced between 1961 and 1974. At launch, it was claimed to have a top speed of 150mph and 0-60 time of less than 7 seconds - impressive for the early 1960s and this is probably why it was considered for racing.
However, the standard car was considered too soft so the lightweight version was developed which reduced the weight considerably through the use of aluminium panels and plexiglass.
It is believed that only 12 of the planned 18 cars were built in 1963 - the remaining six cars were built in 2015 - but overall, this makes the lightweight E-type extremely rare!
