The Mini was arguably the most influential British car of the 20th century. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959, the mini was in production for over 40 years. In the wake of the Suez crisis in 1956, the market for German bubble cars increased dramatically but Leonard Lord, the head of the British Motor Corporation, hated them so much he laid down the basic specification for the Mini. From being a small shopping trolley type of car, the mini became the choice of celebrities all over the world, and its popularity in the classic car world remains to this day.
The Mini Cooper 35 Anniversary was a special edition Mini produced in 1996 to celebrate the thirty fifth anniversary of the Mini Cooper. The car featured a 1275cc engine, Body-coloured extended wheel arches, green paintwork with contrasting white roof, grey minilite-style wheels, and custom interior. In all, just 200 cars were produced and sold for £8,195 in 1996.
