The Mini was arguably the most influential British car of the 20th century. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959, the mini was in production for over 40 years. In the wake of the Suez crisis in 1956, the market for German bubble cars increased dramatically but Leonard Lord, the head of the British Motor Corporation, hated them so much he laid down the basic specification for the Mini. From being a small shopping trolley type of car, the mini became the choice of celebrities all over the world, and its popularity in the classic car world remains to this day.
This illustration shows one of the most famous minis ever as it was featured in the popular TV series starriung Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean. Based on a 1977 Mk IV mini, the car features additional security using a hasp and padlock, together with a black bonnet.
